You know what I just realised

that popular fandom belief that Thor is a god that is a little slow in the brains department, loves to fight, drink, be with friends, party, etc is actually an accurate description of Thor.

This Thor, I mean

Thor: The Mighty Avenger #2, Roger Langridge and Chris Samnee (x)

Okay, call me behind on the times, but we found this while on my Adventures in Holland and picked it up when I got home. How the hell did this run not have more issues? How did it not have a huge following? It is amazing. The jokes are great (Thor, looking for the Bifrost, watching the Wizard of Oz? Even an homage to Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker from the Muppets!). The art is amazing, sort of in that same simplistic yet very expressive David Aja way. The story isn’t a constant ‘oh my god we’re all going to die if you don’t save us in the nick of time’ deal that would be a serious nail-biter if you hadn’t lived through it a thousand times, but sticks to something simpler and much more bearable.

Because it’s an AU, the Avengers have yet to assemble and so you don’t have to know a thousand different aspects of the Marvel comicverse to understand what’s going on (I’m looking at you, Siege). Not only that, the story matches closely with the MCU Thor storyline — Thor falls to Earth, meets up with not-a-nurse intellectual Jane, is supposed to learn humility but mostly just fights stuff and acts charming, Loki is a little shit but still falls into the Void (though under markedly different circumstances). Thor even wears the same outfit as in the movie:

Well, okay, he has some extra snazzy shoes but ssh.

And the problem is, I can’t figure out why it would be cancelled. It stopped right in the middle of the plot, leaves lots of questions unanswered, all that. It’s worse than Firefly.

So here’s my appreciation post. Even if it didn’t continue as it should have, or at least had a chance to wrap anything up, I enjoyed every page of this comic, all nine issues. I an’t tell you all the reasons I love it, so if you get the chance, support it by buying it (Amazon, or please do go to your local comic store and get it). Thank you for a great comic, Langridge and Samnee. This is easily my favorite Thor comic and it’s going on a special place on my shelf.

Seconding the rec! I checked it because of the funny scans on Tumblr, and then it was so charming.
